(1770-1827) Consecration of the House Overture, Op. 124 LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor, Op. 37 — Intermission — LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major (Eroica), Op. 55 Povilas Stravinsky piano ORCHESTRA SEATTLE George Shangrow conductor Justin Cole conductor Beethoven's heroic third symphony changed the face of music forever. Shortly after the work's premiere, its supporters asserted that "after a few thousand years have passed, it will not fail of its effect," a claim that nearly two centuries later shows little sign of being disproved. For this all-Beethoven program, George Shangrow also leads the exciting Consecration of the House Overture and the third piano concerto, for which he is joined by world-renowned pianist Povilas Stravinsky. |
