| LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN
(1770-1827) Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61 — Intermission — FRANZ JOSEPH HAYDN (1732-1809) Symphony No. 70 in D major MAURICE RAVEL (1875-1937) Boléro Marjorie Kransberg-Talvi violin ORCHESTRA SEATTLE George Shangrow conductor Marjorie Kransberg-Talvi, concertmaster of the Northwest Chamber Orchestra, lends her remarkable talents to Beethoven's only violin concerto, a masterpiece that contrasts stately, classical elegance with brooding romanticism. Seldom in Haydn's music (including more than a hundred symphonies) is his influence on Beethoven more apparent than in his D major symphony dating from 1779. The program also features Ravel's most popular work, the orchestral showpiece Boléro. |
